XBMC for iPad

Learn how to install Kodi (formerly known as XBMC) to your iOS device (iPad, iPhone, or iPod). Since XBMC is not available in the App Store, you will need to jailbreak your device to install the app. There is a common misconception of jailbreaking. You do not need to be tech savvy to jailbreak your device. It is as simple as connecting your phone or tablet to the computer and pressing a button in the jailbreak program. The process is easy and is reversible if you ever decide you do not want a jailbroken device.

The first part of this tutorial will tell you how to jailbreak your Apple device. If your iPhone or iPad is already jailbroken you can skip to the next section.

How-to Jailbreak your iPad, iPhone, and iPod (iOS 8.0-9.0.2)

iOS 9.0-9.0.2

This tutorial requires your device to be on iOS 9.0-9.0.2 and a Windows computer.

Before we begin, please make sure you have at least 1.0 GB of free space in your device. Please also make sure you have Passcode turned off (‘Settings’ > ‘Passcode’), Find My iPad/iPhone off (‘Settings’ > ‘iCloud’), and Airplane Mode on (‘Settings’ > ‘Airplane Mode’)

1. The first step is to back up your device. As with everything, safety is our number priority. Connect your device to iTunes and back it up.

2. Download the Pangu jailbreak tool to your computer. Download it here.

3. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to the computer and run the jailbreak tool.

4. Press ‘Start’ > ‘Already backup’

5. At 65%, unlock device and re-enable Airplane Mode (‘Settings’ > ‘Airplane Mode’)

6. At 75%, unlock device and run the Pangu app

7. Hit ‘Accept’ > ‘Ok’

8. The device will restart and Cydia will be installed. Your device is now jailbroken. The process takes about 5-10 minutes.


iOS 8.0-8.4

This tutorial requires your device to be on iOS 8.0-8.4 and a Windows computer.

Before we begin, please make sure you have at least 1.0 GB of free space in your device. Please also make sure you have Passcode turned off (‘Settings’ > ‘Passcode’) and Find My iPad/iPhone off (‘Settings’ > ‘iCloud’).

1. The first step is to back up your device. As with everything, safety is our number priority. Connect your device to iTunes and back it up.

2. Now download the jailbreak tool to your computer. We will be using the TaiG jailbreak tool. Download it here.

3. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to the computer and run the jailbreak tool.

4. You only need Cydia so you can uncheck 3K Assistant, then press ‘Start’.

5. The device will restart and Cydia will be installed to the home screen. The whole jailbreaking process takes about 5-10 minutes.

How-to Install Kodi (XBMC) to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod


1. Open Cydia and go to the ‘Sources’ tab.

2. Go to ‘Edit’ > ‘Add’ and type in:

http://mirrors.kodi.tv/apt/ios/

3. Press ‘Add Source’ and hit ‘Done’

4. Go to ‘Team Kodi’ > ‘All Packages’ > ‘Kodi-iOS’ > ‘Install’ > ‘Confirm’

5. After it is done, press ‘Return to Cydia’ and Kodi (XBMC) will be installed to the home screen.
